Lake: Wolford Mountain Reservoir

Wolford Update

Post By: Toon      Posted: 9/12/2020 8:43:14 AM     Points: 118
Took a friend up to Wolford, I wasn't sure what to expect with the recent reports. Lots of fish visible at 30ft-45ft. I didn't even try to catch them knowing this lake. Ran my lines at 15ft deep (very little visible at this depth on the finder). Limited out on 4 year old spawners. They are already red and the males are starting to get the hook jaw. We saw a few small schools, but couldn't get any jigging. Schools are moving constantly and you couldn't stay over them. All fish were on a 6" pink/orange Shasta Tackle Dodger and a pink/silver hoochie w/silver/pink blade.

For those who aren't too familiar with Wolford, active Kokanee are usually in the top 20ft. Depending on time of year, I usually target 8ft-15 ft. 1.3-1.5 mph is usually the ticket.

Ramp closes October 15th I believe, get them while you can..... Good luck!!!!

Thanks for the report Toon, most everyone has had no luck on the other reports. Really good information for those who have a boat.

Gotta give credit where credit is due... it's Rocky Mountain Tackle's equipment, not Shasta...

Thanks Toon. How far back do you have the hoochies?

Over the years I've kinda figured out (I'm assuming anyway) when they're that close to the surface, as the boat goes over, they spread out and come back together behind the boat. We got some 50ft back from the down rigger ball, but when we went to 75, we got significantly more. I have had good luck at 75ft or more when they're up high.... stick to the spawning ground areas, that's where they'll be.

Im hoping the jig bite has started. Let me know if any big schools are around! Im gonna try to go up again next week.
