Camping in a Secret Canyon for Smallies/Cats

Post By: Team CO.F.F.      Posted: 9/3/2020 12:54:40 PM     Points: 57
Got a hot tip from a channel supporter about a secret canyon here in Colorado that has nothing but Smallmouth, Catfish, and pikeminnow. Got out there recently and had an incredible time! Haven't fished for smallmouth out of a river since living in Minnesota.

Not a soul seen the whole time! Due to the place being secret, of course ZERO fishing pressure. Smallies were aggressive and bit a WIDE variety of lures, baits, and techniques. Texas rig with a 2.75" DragNDrop worm or anything moving with bright colors got a bite pretty consistently though!

Really cool to get Sam into her first Channel catfish and also cool to have a catfish fish fry for the first time camping...Really zero complaints, besides it being near 100 during mid day. Had to take breaks to cool off haha!

The drone footage we got was awesome, as I've never really filmed in a canyon that didn't have an interstate running through it...Shots came out really cool and I feel this is one of my best montage intros ever. You'll have to let me know what you think if you get some time to watch it! Hope you guys enjoy though, Part 2 will be next week on Thursday.

One of my favorite COFF videos! Again, you make us feel like we are there and enjoy the scenery and cooking/camping parts too. I am jealous of that chub...very cool catch! That looks like one of our fishing spots but more desert.

That is one of my favorite areas. I try to stay for a week and pull 50 cats. It's all good eating too.

Thanks for another great video, that 's one interesting trip for sure. I don't think my Hyundai elantra would get there, so I will probably not ever see that place in person lol.

I was really happy with how this one came out, glad you liked it too! I always hook into one or two of those every year! Just hate when it happens in a tournament lol. This is in one of the most least heard about regions in Colorado...Cool that it's still so scenic out there!

Glad you enjoyed! We get some bigger cats in Part 2😀

We were very fortunate to get the tip and glad we made the trip too...Can't wait to go back next year. The people that gave us the tip, told us there are some monsters in there too.

not too old to fish

Haha ya an Elantra would be tough...It would make a good impression of a see-saw in some parts though lol.

Looks like a fun time in a very sparsely populated part of the State. i used to live up near there and although I did not fish where you guys were, I grew up fishing the Green River, just over the line in Utah and we used to catch lots of big cats. The pike minnows (aka squawfish) were virtually gone by then, but one of my Grandfathers told of catching a 7 footer in a seine back in the late 30's and one of my Great Uncles caught a 42 lb cat on a rod and reel. There were no small mouth in any of those rivers back then either. It was mostly cats, carp, flannel mouth suckers and roundtail chubs. There was a time not long ago when the pike and small mouth fishing in the Yampa west of Craig was amazing, but they have been virtually eliminated by the CPW in an attempt to bring back the endangered fish. I hope they keep there hands off of the river you were fishing. BTW, great video as usual.

It was an incredible time...We're all very thankful for the opportunity to go fish out there, can't wait to go back! That's really cool, the Green River is on our list. We want to fish all the water in Colorado but we definitely will be going out of state too sometimes. That's incredible to catch a fish that big out of a river! These smallmouth were illegally introduced, not sure exactly of the timeframe of when but I believe at least a few decades ago. Hopefully so, it's really out of the way and not known much about so hopefully they do. Appreciate that man! Had fun editing it😀

It was a blast! Really hot weather by midday but otherwise couldn't complain...I love trout fishing but felt good to switch it up for some different species on the river! Hope you have as good as time as we did, if not better, if you go😀🎣

Thank you! I was really happy with how that intro came out in the end. Happy to hear you enjoyed it! Scenery like that makes it easy for an amateur like me to get some good shots.

Why would you post something like this? This is exactly the kind of crap that has ruined this state, call up one of your buddies and tell him about it if you must, but don't post it on the dam e net, BOO this man!

Lol just another disgruntled old timer. Whatís ruining the state is people from California leaving trash everywhere. Itís called public land for a reason. We own it and should get to use it. If anyone can find that spot from that video they likely have done more exploring than most. As long as they leave no trace what do I care. Great video as always. Always a critic out there.

Just now seeing this, not worried about the negativity at all...The people who told us about this spot WANTED us to make a video of it and post it online for people to see. Tight lines fellas!
