Trout Starting To Hit Bigger Jigs

Post By: bharper      Posted: 8/27/2020 2:09:40 PM     Points: 262
I fished a lower section of the River than I normally do where there’s more current. I tied on a 1/4 oz Olive/Black Marabou Jig where I threw it into the current sweeping the jig in a little more aggressive manner. I stuck a big Bow but lost it after it stripped drag in the current then it jumped spitting the hook! I then caught my biggest Brown on it! I then changed my jig to an Olive/Golden Brown(Orangish) to somewhat mimic a Scud or Sculpin and it paid off immediately with my biggest Bow of the day! So I went up to fish my normal areas and the fishing slowed considerably! So I went to an area with more current and tied on an all black Marabou Jig and stuck my second best Bow of the day! I caught quite a few 14-17” Browns on two Dynamic JSPEC’s in a Brown Trout and Ghost Cutthroat Pattern.

Some really healthy and fat trout out there. I've been trying to learn the jig game for sometime now. Nice photos.

Thx guys! 🎣👊🍻
FishHuntNow- It took me a few times out to really get the feel for fishing different types of water(current, slack, etc)

Ya Dunn Good, Bryan. And reminded me I needed to get back there. I fished close to that spot in the rain/drizzle this am, two weeks ago I couldn’t break 17”. Or catch a bow. The old browns like the overcast, so timing was good until the real rain came at 10:30. Used some patterns close to yours plus a few others. 16 browns in 4 hours, not record setting but fun. Half of those hit in the first hour, including this male brown. Just under 23”. Swam away right after the pic. That was a tussle. Still no rainbows, I tend to fish the slower, deeper runs.

Looks good Bryan! I never knew why you used the fish to cover your face until now. Obviously you were aware of COVID before we were!

Diggins- Sweet M.A. Brown!🎣🏆👍
The Jigs have really been sticking the Bows and some decent Browns! We’ve caught some really nice male Browns lately in the 17-19” range but none over 20”! That toad Male Brown you caught is a beauty! Congrats! It shouldn’t be too much longer and there will be some M.A. Bows being caught! I’ve seen three 24”+ approximate Bows up on the upper section over the last 1 1/2 yrs! We’ve caught almost twice as many Bows as Browns this year until lately!

Jim- 😎It’s all about the fish especially when it comes to Covid!😜

Caught some more beauties yesterday in the same areas! My friend Chet slayed them while catching a few 20”! No pics of his fish because he was down River from me!

Some pretty nice Bobo’s Bryan. I guess I need to try a little downstream for an hour or two. Gonna take my Grandson down there Monday. Thanks for not showing the river in your pics. Net shots are golden.

Diggins- Besides below if you can fish that first rapidity spot along the big rocks above do it! Fish it all the way down from the rocks to where the trail gets into the grass! I’ve caught quite a few nice Bows and Browns there lately!

I had to get out and fish before the Labor Day Weekend crowds! All these beauties were caught on a 3/16 oz Rusty Brown/Orange Marabou Hair Jig! I ended up landing 18 Trout!
