Lake: Aurora Reservoir

What do you learn when the lake drops?

As Aurora drops you get to see the things you don't normally see . . . .I have map making in my sonar and its interesting to see what you think is there and what really is there. One thing I'm seeing is that most all of the shore line on the main lake is long smooth sandy drops. There are some different shores back in the coves, but for the most part,I'm seeing smooth sand with long slow drops.

I'm going to look at a couple lakes while they are low and take my gps out of my truck and mark some channels and structure for future reference.

Hopefully, google earth will have some updated photos from the lowest level this year.

Dan, I used google earth many times to see if there is a historic picture of the lake while it was low. Interesting what you can find!

Yes it is. I also have learned how to create Google Earth overlays of low water for my Lowrance. Very useful when the lake fills.

I've learned a LOT about Jackson this year watching the drop in water level. Some of my favorite spots now have reasons for it. (which I suspected anyway)

Being one without fancy electronics has a distinct disadvantage, but it's nice to have my theories given proof.

Sadly, there are a LOT of lakes out there in the same boat right now, so if you're into a walk go learn the banks you've fished this year, and WHY you'll want to fish them next year. (if we don't end up in the apocalypse before then.)
