Lake: Chambers Lake

Chambers Lake Wildfire - Cameron Peak

Post By: Matt      Posted: 8/13/2020 7:22:28 PM     Points: 45110
Was up camping at Chambers, didn't get a chance to get the boat in today after a morning hike because of this fire that started just west of the lake. Pics are from campground and campground road. Decided to "voluntarily" evacuate - pretty sure that became mandatory quickly. If you're planning on heading up the Poudre Canyon or to be in the north central mountains at all soon, check on this "Cameron Peak" fire for sure.

I had plans to camp at Lake John this weekend. Does anyone know how bad the smoke is in the Walden area? Or should I head South to redeem myself at Spinney lol. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just heard from my son Rob who lives in Walden and he said it's pretty smoky, but they're still taking trips out today. Keep in mind Hwy 14 is closed.

Looking at the map on inciweb, looks like Chambers, Lost, and Laramie lakes will be damaged by this fire and its future runoffs. As dry and primed as this area is....wondering what the runs will look like today.

Just saw on RMACC they dispatched helicopter support on a fire just reported NW of Red Feathers.

There are 120 people on the ground and 3 choppers in the air as of 4:00 p.m.
I have been watching the plume and smoke from Estes Park all day ! If they don't open Hwy. 14 by next weekend I will be going over trail ridge road and up Willow Creek pass through Rand into Walden. Fires keep people away and the fishing is GREAT.

gsn1574, do you have a link or more info on the one NW of Red Feather Lakes? All I can find is news on one from 2 years ago. Thanks.

I saw that one from the regional dispatch center but no follow on. Must have been a small fire or a false alarm. Could have been a latent notification from the small fire a couple weeks ago.

They ought to outlaw campfires for dispersed camping all over the state for the remainder of the summer. The woods are tinderbox dry.

My father and I once stopped a forest fire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota. We were on a hike in brook trout lake (big brook trout) back in the woods when we noticed smoke coming from a campsite recently left by the campers. We used a minnow bucket to pour on water and stomped on flames to put the thing out.

^ state wide fire ban was in effect days ago. Stage 2 in a lot of areas.
