Crappie Bite

Post By: Buho      Posted: 7/27/2020 7:14:23 PM     Points: 108
It is been weeks since I hit Sterling. Last time I was there the water level was dropped significantly and fishing was tough in the rocky areas. Has anyone have any success!? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Last lake update, the OP mentioned that he got his limits of crappies. I was there about 2 weeks ago and it was hard fishing for me, we trolled, jigged, bait dunked, and drifted to nothing but carp and drum. I heard water levels are dropping everyday also. I sure if you can locate the school you should be able to catch a few.

Just incase anyone's curious like I was.
From their FB.

Tomorrow, 8-3-20, will be the last day the Elks ramp will be open. Water levels are getting that low.
Starting 8-4-20 the South ramp will be open 7 days a week. There is still plenty of water to launch at the South ramp.
Inspection hours will be:
Monday-Thursday: 8a-6p
Friday-Sunday: 7a-8p

Water levels are dropping...crappies are holding on deep structure in the main basin as they are months in to post spawn at this time. They can be caught, but finding them is the key (not the best time of year to go for slabs).

Just went to Sterls on Saturday, had to work for it go locate the crappie but they were completely opposite of the dam this time. Ended up with 5 species and just one crappie.
