Fat River Bows

Post By: bharper      Posted: 7/3/2020 3:54:05 PM     Points: 247
My friend Chet and I fished the River yesterday with some good results! We landed 44 Trout mostly Bows with a few Browns! He caught most of his on a 1/8 Crappie Jig and I caught most of mine on a 2 3/8 Berkley Flicker Shad in Purple Tiger! The fish were feeding primarily on hatches so we had to present our lures in a slow to medium action. He got me on big fish but none of these photos are his catches!

It is so good to see the GR football rainbows again. Thank the Lord for those Whirling Disease resistant rainbows discovered in Germany all those years ago. 44 fish in a day for 2 guys on the GR is a great day no matter who you are.

Thx guys! The Browns dominated this section for at least the last 8+yrs! In the last two years the Bows have absolutely taken back over the area! Weve even spotted a handful of Bows 2 or longer! A lot of 16+ Bows are shaped like Smalllmouth Bass! Below is an example of some of the Bows 19-20 plus over the last few yrs!

Nice job Bharper. You should give the fly rod a go buddy. My first lights out fishing trip began at the Gunnison River. I decided to leave my spin stuff in the truck. Best choice Ive made. That was 36 years ago.

Nah I just playing... but the Gunny is a wonderful river for fly fishing. Nice pix!
