Fish: Grass Carp

Spring carp

Post By: bron      Posted: 6/17/2020 6:27:16 AM     Points: 38411
We have had an epic spring carp tour. 30 carp, most over 8lbs....several catfish, and finally got some fish with the fly and bubble. It's been great fishing with Toadfish, SapperJ, JShanko, RK Hancock, and several others. SapperJ got a MA grasscarp on one trip too and my son lost a 40" carp just short of the net as well. Here's some pics for you all.

Congrats, some great tugs there no doubt.

BTW, how do catch a grass carp? Snag up on a weed and just keep fishin'?

It has been a pleasure fishing with you as well, Bron (Curtis). Learning how to fish for carp has been an enjoyable experience. Catching my first MA carp was as surprising as it could get for this newbie. And the company, while fishing, has been the best I've had in years. Looking forward in picking up more as I continue in my journey in Colorado fishing.

Nice work guys ! What , no competition this year ? Been chasing OL “ Rubber Lips “ some myself this year. It’s been painfully obvious that my “ worm drowning” skills have rusted up some , due to many years of lack of use. So far no Carp. But also no skunk. Been cheating and putting my 2nd rod stamp to use chucking lures. All but one time . That’s been my skunk beater.

I got my Grass Carp Master Angler a couple of hours ago. 31 inches, sight fishing with a dry fly. I will try for a photo. I drown my iPod while trying to get a selfie. It slid out of my unzipped pocket. It was worth it! Also got 3 species of trout, Brown, Rainbow, and 14 inch Brook. Great day at 8000 ft. I needed fleece!

Thanks guys! The 10lb. carp definitely fight the best and we got a couple of those on light tackle. Blake had one on sunday that ran so many times he had to switch hands reeling it in. One of you ask what bait for grassies...they eat the same dough baits as commons.
