Yampa River help

Post By: Dabindaniel      Posted: 5/23/2020 11:04:14 AM     Points: 156
I’m trying to plan a trip to the Yampa River to try to get on some smallmouth as I hear it does pretty well. But I’ve heard a lot about the Cpw and their efforts to kill off the population of smallies and pike. Is it worth a dang to even fish it anymore? If so is there a few spots worth dropping by? I can give my email if you dint want to blast a spot. Thanks in advance!

If you are going to the Yampa try Elkhead Reservoir four miles East of Craig. I have had very good SM fishing there. Be prepared for the pike.

Thanks for the tip. Do ya by chance know the warming cycle for this lake? I’m coming from the front range. Does elk head take a while to heat up?
