ICE OFF Glory! GF's first Cutbow

Had an insane day recently hitting a lake that just iced off over here on the Western Slope. My GF and I slept in really late and got there around Noon. Bite was super active and the trout were really going after the moving baits/lures. We hit the dam wall (I love dam walls) and the big trout were smashing everything...We landed several really nice ones, including my GF's first ever cutbow (around 18-19"). We caught a couple regular size 12-13 stockers too.

Wish you could always sleep in and have that type of action! Great short afternoon of fishing!

Sam was so excited to get her first cutbow! She was screaming and everything lol! Hopefully you've been able to get out and slam some fish SirGreg!

I wanted to but am just trying to "obey"--even though I would be no risk to anyone or vice versa. I treat my neighbor as I would treat myself--my faith. Anyway, My biz has been very good although more difficult but I guarantee its coming soon. Bought my license a couple weeks ago so Im ready. Killed me to miss the open strips of fishable water as I usually do.

I hear you...I feel blessed during these times to have so much available to me here in the Western Slope Mountains. Hopefully your first trip out results in a PB! I would be upset too if I missed the fresh ice off.

That is a fairly long drive to take on when you sleep in. But hey, when the fishing is hot it does not take too long to get a good fix. I love that place, but it is another hour drive one way for me, so I have not been there for several years. I fished it a lot many years ago when I worked on one of the ranches just down the valley. Good stuff, as usual.

I used to travel around the nation and do card tournaments, my main practice site was in Grand Junction and most of my weekend tournaments were in the Denver area. I'm accustomed to traveling around a lot, anything in the 1-3 hour range isn't overbearing for me mentally. So far after 2 times of being there, it's been one of the most consistent places i've fished. Hoping I can always sleep in and it is this way there haha. I don't think we'll be back here though until next ice season but we'll see. Hoping to hit Trappers this Summer!

Trappers in a special gem in a sack of jewels. Be sure to take your belly boats. If you go, you might also want to try the river between Trappers and the start of the private land a few miles downstream, there can be some surprises in there even though it can be a bit of a bushwhack in places. Tight lines

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely try those spots out and bring my belly boat for sure...Hoping for some awesome drone footage as well... hoping to have somewhat of the basics down of fly fishing before I go but we'll see! Tight Lines man!!
