Fish: Hybrid Striped Bass(wiper/palmetto)

Mother nature is full of surprises this year!

I went out just before sunset tonight to chase a little jerkbait bite I've found for some lm bass and walleye here in town...had my socks blown off by the first wiper I've ever done the dance with. Good lord they are incredibly strong creatures, I've never had a fish pull drag like that before!

New all species PB for me to boot at 7.65 pounds, and still swimming strong after release. These pictures don't do it justice but I was way too excited and shaky to take anything better xD

Definitely a big surprise, caught it with a finesse jerkbait on a 6'6" med rod. Was a pretty wild ride!

Does the theory "where there's one, there's more" generally hold true for wipers?

Wipers can live long lives. If they are not stocked periodically then there number diminish. Check out the stocking report for that lake, or let me do it for you, haha.

Congrats on the wiper! I've caught one, which happened to be an MA, and it quite the fight!

Wipers have a pretty short lifespan, 5 to 6 years.

"The typical size of hybrids
caught by fishermen generally ranges from 2 to 5 pounds, but fish in
the 10 to 15 pound range are not uncommon. The usual life span of
hybrid striped bass is 5 to 6 years--
more similar to white bass than to
striped bass (30 to 40 years)."

Great resource shiverfix, thank you!

FXA0 - Duo baits are soo juicy. I love every single one I own and would go swimming to get 'em back xD
