Gates are closed and locked. A sign is posted that says closed until further notice.

Heard this for all thorton ponds, open spaces and parks. Any word as to why? Is it the virus?

I just confirmed what you're saying on the Thornton city website no explanation. I also see New Mexico has shut down all its state parks. Seems counter to common sense but let's keep watch on what's happening around our water.

More on New Mexico: the state web site still says state parks there closed through at least April 9, but a radio station said late Sunday that overnight camping and events at New Mexico state parks will be suspended through April 9, but the parks will remain open for day use. So not as panicky as it might first seem. Doesn't make sense to limit our ability to stay away from one another. : )

This is so stupid. In the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic it was found that sun and fresh air actually killed/shortened the flu. Let’s trap people in recycled air.

People came to Colorado when they had tuberculosis for the very reason you stated. Day use only for State Parks for a while is fine with me. As a matter of fact, fisherman practice social distancing on our own for the most part.

NoNick nailed it.Naltional Jewish hospital was built because Denver was the best place for "lunggers" (tuberculosis) I see a Dr. at NJH and there's a lot of pictures and stuff about the history of NJH.

I just looked at Thornton open space page and it looks like they’ve removed references to open space closings, with no explanation for the change. Public rec center type facilities are shut down. Anyone know what’s happened?

Where have you been. Public rec centers are closed state wide.

Aware of rec center closings. But for about 24 hours they padlocked Thornton open space properties. “until further notice.” Apparently backed away from that.

I don’t live to far and can drive by later today with an update. But imma go on a limb to say most likely not and it’s still closed.I haven’t seen a single post on here or any other fishing platforms to indicate it is open. But I can give an update later today.

I’m assuming they recall what opening day looks like typically and their knees get all weak imagining the “spike in cases”...

I’m assuming Spratte will follow whenever it happens, wish they had loaded it with brood fish and loads of panfish after refilling.

Not to rock the boat but "imagining" is a good word. A week ago our local weathermen were forecasting no frost-and saying it was safe to plant your vegetable garden. I have had to cover my plants 4 out of the next 7 nights. Local and national news forecasting a gigantic spike in September is comical. Virus outbreaks overwhelmingly tend to be seasonal and peter out as the angle of the sun becomes more direct. The sun kills in very short order---and people open their windows-letting the bad out and the good in. Our immune systems naturally get stronger with exposure to direct sunlight and fresh air-along with exercise and fresh fruits and vegetables. Celebrate the Spring and Summer seasons! I reject the term "NEW NORMAL". Everyone has the free will to believe whatever they like. My 2 cents.
