Fish: Colorado River Cutthroat

Deep Mountain Adventure for Cuttys

Post By: Team CO.F.F.      Posted: 2/13/2020 2:25:19 PM     Points: 12
Hey Everyone,

My team and I head deep into the mountains starting at 3AM! We got up to Grand Mesa, strapped on the snowshoes, and started our several mile adventure in the dark. Most of the walk was uphill so we were exhausted by the time we got there. I landed 5 really nice ones! All of various sizes, all with nice colors! We also got some really nice drone footage throughout the day, including some nice sunrise shots of the area!! I also just got my new electric augur in two days prior to heading up there...thank goodness because 2-3 feet of hand auguring all day would've been a nightmare!

Weather was great, we chose this day on purpose...We knew we were going to be sweating by the time we got there.

I had a blast editing this, so I hope you all enjoy it D

If videos aren't for you, I have attached some pictures of 3 of the fish we caught!! :D

Beautiful video, beautiful fish. I know that lake from summer fishing and it can be really tough to get those cutthroats to take during open water season. Too bad I am now past the age where I can get up there, since I would love to ice it. Glad you all had such a good trip.

It was really fun, would've been easier with a snowmobile but still fun to get out and do things the old fashion way. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, it's my pleasure sharing my adventures with you all :D

It's an awesome place, several of my old timer friends usually snowmobile up there once a year. There's huge fish but yes they're finicky. We probably marked at least 30-40ish fish that day. A big handful darted right for the bait but didn't take...We honestly didn't anticipate it being THAT bad walking in but it was rough haha. Thank you for not saying the lake name as well :D

What kind of drone are you using?

hands down one of my favorite videos of yours ... all that hard work paid off (at least in the eyes of one of your viewers!) ... thanks for putting in the time to create this one!

Good job! Those lakes kicked my ass last year. I was convinced that the fish died of winterkill! But after watching your videos. I guess it was just me. I tried kastmasters, taz devils, rapalas, tubes, worms, flies and powerbait. 3 different trips. Ah well. I'm not giving up. All i can do is keep trying. Right?lol.

Great video and story. Keep it up. I'm too out of shape for that now, but just starting back at the gym. Always enjoy your posts. Doozy

Thanks Tube m! They're just super finicky in there. We didn't include the footage of the near 30-40ish fish we marked that didn't take. Some even gunned it right for the bait and stopped right at it. We have old timer friends that go up there once or twice a year too...Between all of us, we've only ever got them to hit on shrimp/krill or shrimp tails. Sam hooking up on that one with the tube was a first for any of us that we know. Next time you head up to that area, try that out!!

I consider myself to be in decent shape and I about fell over after the trip...We love taking adventures but this one was a little rough, we will hopefully hike back up there in the summer, otherwise for ice it's going to be snowmobiles next time haha. I'm Glad to hear that you've been enjoying the fishing, thanks for tuning into them Doozy!!
