First Outing at Taylor

Left real early from Monte Vista and got to the lake and fishing by 9:00 am. I was in 44 FOW, and Lowrance showed steady marks but few takers. Tried lots of jig colors with sucker meat and little interest. So the gusty day produced 4 fish over 6 hours or so. Chatted with "butterytrout" and he and a pal had similar luck on a slow day with fair bite. I counted this as a good day as my many years average on this lake is from zero to about 9 fish per day.

Thanks for the update. Hope to get there in February. How was the slush?

I posted more details of the conditions on the conditions report, but it takes some time for skipper approval. Anyway, snow about 6 inches thick overlying 4 inches of slush in spots. Then 14 inches of hard ice. I put the extension on my Ion expecting feet of ice. But as it turned out, it was not too bad. And by the way....I got this Ion and asked the group members last year of how well it did in Taylor-like conditions. Am pleased to report it performed very well and cut through snow, slush and hard ice. I have the 8 inch 5 amp model.

The road has been plowed to the Marina which can save us sled-pullers some effort. There was room to unload and turn around. But as I was leaving yesterday, winds were aggressive and the road was drifting in quickly. So it may not be available in a day or so. Stay on snowmobile tracks when hiking in.

Sounds like a good day - or at least better than work!

I love that they are plowing down to the marina this year - that hill sucks!!!

Likewise buttery. We'll keep after those monsters and see you again along the way. Good luck with your studies too.
