My son, Diggins, Mrs Diggins and I hit the ice at Harvey Gap this past weekend looking to find us a few big ole pike and some perch. Hit the ice at daylight and got the tip-ups set up. Then dug some holes for perch and crappies. The perch where thick and hungry. At times the graph would show 3-4 feet of fish mostly on the bottom but some suspended. Bottom line on perch is we caught at least 200-300 of them but as usual at Harvey most where small at 4-7 inches. We did manage a fair mess of 8-9 inchers, a few 10 and one Master Angler 12 incher. When we would see a suspended fish or school we would try for them thinking they might be crappies. We never got a crappie but did get several small rainbows. The pike fishing proved to be more of a challenge and slow. in 2 1/2 days be had 10 flags and landed only 4 pike at 21, 24, 28 and 29 inches. Had one on for a few head shakes and popped off, the rest grabbed the bait but dropped it in their first run. Weather was great and so was the company. Ice was about 9 inches with 4 inches of snow on top. Typical small baits worked on the perch and bows tipped with waxies. No bucket list musky thru the ice or big pike but still a great time and lots of fun.
