Granby ATV Access

Post By: Dakota Dude      Posted: 1/22/2020 10:22:48 AM     Points: 2260
Does anyone have any knowledge of whether ATVs are getting around on lake Granby? I am curious for the tournament.

Thanks,

Ryan

I was there this past weekend. Atvs everywhere and minimal slush.

I've been fishing ABAY driving from Sunset on a snowmobile for 5 days. Someone posted in Conditions that there is "no" slush. I can guarantee you that's not right but with about 5 or 6" on snow on top of the ice I've been going through it easily with some momentum pulling a sled. I see water in my tracks behind when I look back. The areas with the most seem to be just west of Deer Island, and from east of Deer Island to ABAY there are numerous pockets of it. Just to get to dike 3 I drove through at least 3 areas with slush. Not to be alarmist, but there is slush out there, it's not deep, but it's there. The main lake may be slush free I haven't been fishing there.

Looks like perfect weather for the tournament.

There is slush out there for sure.
We have not had alot of snow so its not been real problematic yet, but there is a fair bit of it around the lake.

Hey Parkerdude, is ABAY a secret spot or am I missing it on the map ?? I was just looking to see how far you traveled on the lake. I'm planing a trip up next week and will be launching from sunset point. just wanted to make sure we could make it to the deer island area. Thanks,

I'm not sure what you are asking, ABAY is the very east part of the lake, it's a huge area. It's about 4 miles from Sunset. I've been fishing there because there are not many people who go that far and it's quiet and the fishing pressure is probably a little less. Some drive to the end of the lake and access it that way. I've been hitting it early because I can get there now without worrying about getting stuck in slush which can happen if we were to get more snow. The tournament traffic will probably tear up most of the slush that's out there and it may freeze, it might actually get better by next week if we don't get more snow to push more water up through the cracks.

I was just trying to see how far you were traveling across the lake from sunset. Iíve only been up there once and that was summer time. This will be my first ice fishing up there. I have a snowmobile to get to places out away to less fished areaís. You basically answered if you went that far from sunset. I was just making sure I could get to some of the spots I wanted to try.
Thanks for the info, I think we should be ok.
