Scratching the itch

Post By: Swampy13      Posted: 12/11/2019 4:23:33 PM     Points: 85
By this time last year I had been out on the ice four or five times. Most of the lakes are still open water. The Grand Mesa is an exception. So in order to scratch that itch I met Digginjiggin at 8am at Island Lake. It delivered, as usual. Mostly brookies and bows but a couple of splake also showed up. Nothing of size but good numbers and a chance to shake the cob webs off.

Was a great day to be out and Swampy always is a blast to fish with. The brookies were hitting on the drop like crappies today, but they got real active from 10 to noon in 40 FOW about 5 feet off the bottom. Wind came up strong for an hour but then backed off. Some pretty male brooks for sure, here was my most colorful.

Diggins, sounds like a plan. One day chasing brookies and splake another for perch and crappies.

One thing is for sure, it doesn't take Diggin long to figure out what lure and presentation is the best. He zeros in on it pretty quick. Then you just have to imitate. But don't let it go beyond that, as I've actually heard him talking to the fish as he is jigging. :) Now I have that nasty habit too.

Iíd have to plead guilty to that, Fred. It all started with the use of the Marcum. They must have a mind control device imbedded in them. As proof, you never talked to fish all the years you fished with Vexilars. But as soon as you
Got that fancy Marcum, you have now succumbed to its mind control. Thatís my excuse, er, story and Iím stickin to it!

Nothing wrong with talking to the fish and even singing to them. In fact I just might be guilty of that too.
