Went Ice fishing today at Island Lake on Grand Mesa. Got on the ice about 9:30 am and immediately started catching fish. I fished for a couple of hours and caught about 20. They included a mix of splake and rainbows. The splake were mostly small, but I did keep 4 rainbows ranging from 12 to 14 inches long. They all had very nice pink meat. The ice was okay, but there was slush in places. Everyplace I checked had 4-5 inches of good hard ice under the slush. I only ventured about half way from the east end to the island. A couple of other guys showed up around 10:30, but it looked like there had only been one other group on the ice before me within the last few days. The snowmobiles have not ventured out yet so I had to break trail, but the snow was not deep on the ice, so it was not bad. Attached is a picture of the fish I brought home.
