Lake: Upper Reservoir - Palmer Lake

Open water or ice?

Post By: xavierk31      Posted: 11/5/2019 1:56:41 PM     Points: 946
Just curious if anyone has made the hike to Upper recently to see if it's still wide open or if it's starting to get ice capped at all? My still water options are dwindling by the day, lol.
Thanks
X

khutch- welcome first of all.... as far as ice is concerned, I mean the higher elevations will certainly get iced up faster than lower elevation lakes. Antero was capped last week, but a recent update said the ice wasn't safe and that there was open water. But places like Antero would be a good place to start, given that it's a fairly shallow lake, and the elevation.
Still a little early tho.

Thank you! Im getting ready, traded out my camping gear for my ice gear in the SUV. Ready to get out there. I always spend Christmas at Lake of the Woods in norther MN and my friends and cousins have already been out in MN.

Spent many a winter weekend on Lake of the Woods myself. Had a cabin at the Wigwam north of Baudette. Caught lots of walleye, sauger, occasional northern and the always ready to battle eelpout. Gold jigs and fathead heads. Good times.

Agreed! I love me some Eelpouts. When my rattle goes in the middle of the night, jumping out of my cot to tackle a big one in the dark, nothing more fun. Really trying to get to the igloo again this year. Landed a 25 incher on a rattle while having a beer last year.
