Dynamic HD Lure/Line Twist

Post By: FishGrand      Posted: 9/21/2019 8:09:21 PM     Points: 945
Trolled from pedal kayak today with Dynamic HD lures. Used without a swivel per instructions . After about 2 hours use I had lots of bunched up/twisted line by lure and up to reel. Does use of swivel still allow good lure movement? Any other suggestions to avoid line twist?

I suggest a barrel swivel and a 2’ to 3’ leader between the main line and lure. I use the smallest size I can. Just an idea.

I'm not experienced in this, but try to get in touch with Dynamic lures. They are here in CO if I'm not mistaken and they are very customer friendly . . . .ya might give them a call on Monday?
BTW . . . what kind of reel are you using? Spinning or bait caster?
I've seen spinning reel that would add line twist to the line . . . .but not like you're talking about.
On my "slow death" crawler harness,I use a tiny barrel swivel to attach the harness to the bottom bouncer as the slow death hook keeps the crawler spinning . . . .no barrel, line get wound up by the spinning.
Skiman's got the right idea! (I'd think!)

Ski's Idea should work. but I would check the lure itself. Spinning type lures, cause line twist because ..they spin.. Their rotating action twists the line. Your HD Trout should ..not.. be spinning like this. If it is . there is something wrong with it. Ive fished " chuck and wind "all day with similar lures on superline without issue.

Good suggestions guys. I’ll see if I can connect with Dynamic. I use a spinning reel and think that is contributing to this problem — and that getting a barrel swivel in with a leader will help.

Did you tune the lure before starting to troll with it? Should swim straight.

Done by tweaking the eye on the front.

Also agree with Ajax...the lure may need to be tuned. Good Fishing! Ski

I only use ball baring swivels with snaps for connecting to any lures that can swivel - spoons and spinners. Plugs should not swivel at all, and you should be able to tie the line directly to the plug without having line twist. In fact, tying the line directly allows you to adjust the action of the plug by moving the line knot on the connecting wire loop on the plug. The higher up the knot, the faster the plug action.
