Monument Lake Monster

I usually go to Monument Lake with my kid to let her catch a bunch of small trout, gills, and perch but also go there when I just don't feel like driving up to the mountains. Went there last Tuesday with my 3 weight fly rod expecting the usual net full of tiny fish, but was pleasantly surprised. 5 minutes after my line hit the water this 17" rainbow took me for a ride, was a lot of fun on a 3 weight rod. This is why I love fishing you never really know what you're gonna catch.

What'd he take? A few weeks ago I saw a small rainbow jump, followed by what mustve been a 36" pike. Looked like quite the chase. couldnt get my streamer tied on fast enough, but didnt have wire anyways.
Nice catch

@glwolfe he took a beadhead pheasant tail nymph. One fin was chewed on and the other smaller rainbow that day was missing a piece of gill plate and a front belly fin. I can tell there's a decent pike in there, happy hunting.
