What is the consensus about castable fish finders?

Post By: Hell2Pay      Posted: 8/11/2019 7:13:32 PM     Points: 5
I am interested in maybe getting a castable fish finder for shore fishing. I'd probably use my second-rod stamp to utilize the device, so I wouldn't lose it in the event of a bite.

What do you all think of these things?

Do they seem to work well, what brand/model is best?

I really like the idea of getting depth readouts, temp, and objects that may be sitting at the bottom that could lead to a snag. Hoping they are just novelty and are useful!

Thanks in advance fellow anglers.

My buddy had a little yellow one. It was a joke. It would read the depth pretty decent. It would constantly show fish on the screen... Even in a swimming pool with nothing in it. Needless to say he doesnt use it. Maybe they have gotten better in the past 4 years or so. Just an honest experience.

I hope they have improved. Idk what to think about some of the reviews I have seen on youtube or amazon, youtube seems like lowkey endorsements.

It'd be really awesome if someday they could have a castable fish finder that integrated augmented reality. Point your phone or the receiving device at the area where there is live real-time feedback.

I'd call it ReelTimeARô :P

My Deeper Sonar Pro+ has been amazing. Worth every penny in my opinion. It has built in GPS and generates its own wifi to connect to the app, no blue-tooth whatsoever. It has shore, boat, and ice fishing modes. With the plus model you can also create your own bathymetric maps from the shore. The unit itself weighs around 3.5 oz so casting will be difficult on a light rod. I personally use a medium-heavy rod for it with 10lb braided line and I can launch it out there a pretty good distance.

Deeper pro +. Awesome. Great customer service. You get to stop guessing on waters you canít see into or canít get a boat on. Absolute game changer for me on the platte. I had a fish hunter before that and the unit was terrible and customer service was a joke. Get the Deeper pro plus...

Key question is... What kind of fishing you will be doing.
Every castable has a different cone angle.. Some are wifi some are Bluetooth.

I own all these and also my latest is Deeper Chirp+
It's a 3 cone selectable.
Not cheap but the best for my style of fishing.

I guess if u want best for cheap, I would say go with vexilar tpod (ebay under 100$)but it hasn't been updated in years.

Fishhunter 3d is cool too... Because it has a 3d mode

But if u want mapping, best flasher, regular updates and best costumer service then go with deeper sonar.
