BOAT PEEPS! I need your Help! High Altitude Props

Post By: AddictedAngler      Posted: 7/15/2019 4:24:32 PM     Points: 781
Hey all,

Just a quick question here. I run a 200HP Yammy 2 stroke with a 21 pitch stainless here in the metro. I am still trying to dial in my prop for Granby and other very high elevation lakes. What does everyone run for high elevations props? How does it compare to your metro area prop? 3 sizes down in pitch? more?

If anyone has a 200-250HP Yamaha OX66 that would be ideal information.

I really appreciate the help! Here is a pic of a giant crappie I caught in NE. Just for fun because fish pictures never get old.

I run 25p at sea level 23p on metro lakes & 21p in the mountains. I got one of those crappie last week.

Forgot to mention mine are 3 blade, 4 blade would give better hole shot & slower speeds staying on plane.

Youíre going to be in the 17-19 range.

Buy it local so itís an easy swap if you need to change.

Some good prop shops in the front range.

Test it fully loaded of people fuel and gear.

I have a 115 hp mercury and my prop is a 17 pitch, it took me about 1 minute to get on plane. I talked to another guy that was there and he runs a 15 pitch prop. His motor was a 150 hp. Hope this helps.

I've always gone down 2" in prop pitch when switching from metro to mountains.

Thanks, everyone. Super helpful with the replies. My hole shot is insanely good at 5600ft. I ran a 17 pitch at elevation and thought it was just okay at getting up on plane. I tried a 19 pitch once and it got me up to about 5000RPMS with good hole shot. That's missing out on 600RPMS though... Who makes an 18pitch?

Have you tried this? [log in for link]

You might also try the merc prop selector app, it lets you enter in elevation
