Lake: Ward Creek Reservoir

Moose swimming Ward Creek Reservoir

My wife and I played run and gun on 5 Grand Mesa lakes today to see if we could catch a brook trout in some road side lakes that have a few. Nada on the brookies but lots of stockers on a slender, olive woolly worm behind a clear bubble. Damsel flyntime and they were easy pickinís. But the highlite of the day was a cow moose swimming across Ward Creek Reservoir, the first lake we fished. First Grand Mesa moose I have seen, they usually are found on the back side around Vega. We were trying to see if the road was busted through to Trickle Park and beyond but it was closed where the old Grand Mesa Road meets the road to the back side. Hoping for next weekend with these warm temps.Tried to send the moose pics but Verizon sucks today, send tomorrow.

Very cool to see moose anytime but swimming the lake makes it better.

As a side note , a friend tried to go over the top of the Mesa from the Colbran side and was stopped by snow drifts. This was last saturday, so who knows by know. Should be 100 degrees on Thursday.
