Lake: Summit Lake

Mt Evans today

Post By: bron      Posted: 7/5/2019 5:48:40 PM     Points: 45686
We went up first thing this morning and were 2nd thru the gate. Lots of snow up there and Summit Lake is still partly capped with slabs of ice floating in the open water. Air temp was in the low 40s with a 30mph wind. We spotted some cutties coming out from under a ice slab by shore but when you cast to them they gave you the middle fin and hid back under the ice. Here's some lake photos.

Did see lots of marmots and mountain goats with young. Fun day!

We were up there last fall. Pretty sure they closed it to fishing and even disallowed walking within 20 yards of the water. We just went to the NE corner to hike and take photos. Maybe it was just closed where we were. Beautiful pics. Winters long up high pilgrim.

Mountian goats ? I'm confused . . .over by Georgetown I've seen "big horn" sheep?
The Goats look way different . . . .two different critters?

HP...two different animals. Usually we see bighorns up there too but not this time. A ranger we talked to said she saw a herd of bighorns driving up, but we missed them. here's some bighorns from last year for comparison.
