Lake: Quail Lake

Quail Lake seems to be a summer camp location

Post By: Rev_William      Posted: 6/18/2019 11:43:25 AM     Points: 48
Just checking in after going there last Wed. It seems it has turned into a summer camp destination for kids to fish, paddle board ect... They started to show up about 10 am. It got so crowded on the water with paddle boards, canoes and kayaks it wasn't much area to really fish.

Divide the number of lakes along the front range by the number of people who want access to water for all of their various activities...then add tens of thousands of new paddle-boarders, fisherman, jet skiers, kayakers, triathlon competitors, wake boarders, etc, etc. every year. Better get used to the crowds.

That's why I just start casting towards the kayakers and they normally leave me alone. Or I try to avoid any of the lakes around Springs because the crowds are just irritating.

Don't worry California will come up a way Xbox causes cancer. There will be a study.😉

Yea, it's very obvious that Colorado does not have enough Water (lakes, reservoirs, etc) to support the current population of people anymore. You can barely find a place to fish that isn't crowded.

IMO, the fishing around the area (any lake 2 hrs away from Denver/COS) has diminished significantly.

When you do catch a dam fish, it's about 14", because anything with size is being kept.

just to be a devil's advocate here I'd argue that the fishing has gotten quite a bit better recently all along the front range. Lots of new people coming which means more housing developments are being built with irrigation ponds that hold good fishing. Always gotta move around, try new things, and deal with the crowds to get on quality fish, there's still plenty to be had.

California and both coast's best new study would be "why do people leave in droves and what can we do to fix it"? They'd be better off keeping and drawing people back there, and frankly, Colorado would be better off too.

Why do SUP's have priority access to ponds and lakes over fisherman? Who paid what to be there? Why should a fisherman have to drive 50 miles up 24 to fish when there are lakes, albeit only a few, in town to fish? CPW needs to address this issue because fisherman pay to fish and SUP's show up and that's it. What they pay for their board as their only expense to use it on a public water isn't my problem. People buy a license to fish in public waters, not to be harassed by a swarm of SUP's.

I buy one to fish for pike and look how that's going.
To add to what Ajax mentioned above I have a love seat/sofa/X box with a cooler full of games that I could donate if we could find a covered picnic area with an outlet somewhere. There used to be a free tv on the side of the road down Sante Fe. Maybe we could get some of these kids away from the lake? I'm thinking about learning how to fly a drone so I can start fishing some of these private waters around here.

Geez, didn't mean to start a fight. thought I was giving a lake update. I was trying to give a 7 year old a taste of fishing and a heads up for those wanting to do the same. The only thing I want to say though is I had to spend 20 dollars more this year when I got a combo licence to exercise my rights and hobby but all these other people get to enjoy the out doors on my dime, it would be nice if they could pull their weight by having to pay a fee to enjoy their hobbies the way the sportsman has too.
