Wolford-Kokanee-awesome trip !!!

Post By: TeamGR3      Posted: 6/10/2019 8:04:01 AM     Points: 1534
Went on the first trip of 2019 to Wolford, great time. The weather was awesome, and the lake seemed full from the river blowout, and a bit like chocolate milk. That being said, my buddy David was a newbie, this was his first trip to the wolf, and his 3rd time fishing. He had a rough time netting fish, so we lost a bunch, I hooked about 15 plus fish and only landed 7, David hooked 5 and while I was fighting other fish on 2 rods he landed 1, tried to help as quick as I could but when the kokes hit, it get's a bit hectic, all in all we had fun, laughed and a great visual of all that God has placed around that lake.
The water temp was 58.6 degrees, lake as stated was full, murky brown, we started with green sling blades-6", and a green wedding ring and corn, as the day progressed with murky water and blue bird skies, we changed to a solid pink sling blade holo inner colors, and a pink hoochie with corn, all worked well, but the magic depth for us was 28'-35', we trolled at 1.3-1.5, speed was with the wind at our back-I-pilot ran the course for us consistently. We saw very few fish on top even in the morning...

Thanks for the report. Wolford seems to be like Blue Mesa in that you need a downrigger to fish for kokes. 28 to 33 feet in depth is tough to reach using leaded line.

Nice fish. Looks like they will be tasty.

On a side note I thought corn was illegal to use as bait in Colorado??? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Good job man. Making me hungry. I have not eaten any kokes in a long time. On the thing.
