Was up in Fairplay area Saturday, remembered that Montgomery Res opens on June One, took a drive for a look see...

Conditions report, water level WAY low, most likely making room for heavy runoff. Still frozed up except for Blue River diversion inlet and could barely make out hole in SW corner where Wheeler Creek comes in. Gate to Wheeler still locked. I was not feeling very hearty or ballzee enough to hike down and fish the open water?! The Mosquito Range still has ALOT of snow. Got some great scenery pics including 14'er Mt Lincoln where I noticed several ski tracks on backside.

That is amazingly impressive when you think about it... hard enough to do a 14'er in good to marginal weather with a minimal load of clothing and gear let alone hiking thru God knows how much snow with snow shoes, boots, skis etc etc. Make it to the top on the front side, ski down the backside, traverse across and come back down the front. Incredible?!
If anyone has been to Kite Lake where the Lincoln trailhead is, you know just getting there can be a trip. Add epic snow pack, unpredictable conditions and on and on...WoW is all I gotta say!

Truely breath taking. I bet those pix don't do it justice. Thanks for sharing.
