Well, both of these are a first for me. First bite alarm while fishing from shore at Meadow Park Lake. It wasn't one of those beep, wait, beep, wait, it was a steady beeping, so I picked up the rod and started reeling in. Soon obvious there was nothing there, but the way the rod tip was moving, I'm sure something was messing with my bait. No idea what though. Baited up again and recast to the same area, but nothing more.
Second, my bladder finally convinced me it was time to go home, so I began to reel in my second rod. Felt funny, and gave me some resistance. Then I saw the flash of silver in the water. Chrome plated golf club handle apparently. I had snagged the grip. My first catch of anything on a carp rig, so that's still something, right. I have a trophy. My wife was not so appreciative.
Lovely moonrise over the lake though, so still a worthwhile outing.
My most infamous carpy catch was fishing with Chris, down at Quail Lake, perhaps 2013 timeframe. I am always annoyed at anglers that leave fishing line cast off on the bank, tangled up in bushes, etc. I noticed a ball of line stuffed into a nearby bush. Picked up the line, tore it free from the bush, then started pulling the line in that went into the water. About 50 yards of line later, I had landed a carp, perhaps 4-5 lbs, still swimming on the other end ! Who knows how long it had been on that hook, the metal was in pretty bad shape. Fish was unhooked and released back into the lake to swim again, this time, free.
