Lead Core

I have a 200 yard spool of Cabela's lead core that's at least four years old. It's still in the wrapper, it's never even been out of my house. Is it still usable?

It should be fine. The lead has a braid covering it,as long as it has been stored out of sun light, you should be good.

Iíve fished leadcore for 20 years. My personal opinion of Cabelas brand leadcore is it is crap. Iíve used it and wouldnít use it again. If youíre serious about fishing leadcore I would toss the Cabelas leadcore and buy some Suffix 832 18 lb. itís smaller in diameter and sinks faster, requiring less line out. Itís also way better quality than Cabelas. It does cost more but if youíre going to commit reels to leadcore then might as well do it right.
