So went out fishing today. Started out great. Started to move around the first island to the back side and boom. I fell through a monster hole in the ice. About 4 foot wide. When i finally got composed i noticed it was all cut out by an auger. There was enough crusted snow on top to hide it. I could barely see an outline where a hut sat on top. Someone was sight fishing out on parvin. When i move further around the island i noticed 3 more sight holes not covered in snow due to it being more open. I was lucky to have my ice picks with me and the fact that it wasnt super deep. Could have ended bad. Ice was 2 feet around me made it a little difficult to get out. If anyone goes out be careful.

Thank God you are alive! I have been ice fishing for 45 years and never had an emergency like that--especially alone. If you kept on walking around the lake after that you are a true hardcore fisherman. Whew!

For everyone, if you see people doing that please report them. I believe 10 inches is the larges hole we can make in the ice. Super dangerous. Glad your prepared. Lots of little kids fish on the lakes in that area as there good put and take stocker lakes.

I think you fell in the layer of slush/ ice befor the real ice. I was out there Saturday did not see anything like that. Or any one sight fishing around the island. I did drill three holes with an ten inch auger mutiple locatons. None of thwm overlapped well with in the regs. But i did bust out the crusty slush around it. So all in all you just fell through the crust layer which was 2 foot.in some spots.

Randog i would say it sure looked like sight holes to me. Cause the whole perimeter was cut by an auger. Every place i drilled never ran into 2 foot of slush. If i did fall through just crusty slush then there was no ice below it. Cause i fell through with no resistance, and when you are by yourself in deep water it sucks. It's hard to believe 2 foot of slush at parvin. I have been fishing that lake for a long time and never ran into that mainly due to the fact that lake doesn't usually get that way. If what I fell through are your areas, then that's is really messed up. Could have died luckily didn't. The other spots that were just like that did not have 2 foot of slush around them as well.

Went to Parvin 3/17...only ones on the ice...10-14 inches covered with 2-3 inches of slush, covered by 4-5 inches of snow most places. Stayed in first cove...caught a little bit of everything from 10" to 15" . Caught 15 between 3 of us...mostly in the 10:00am to 12:00 time period.... pink/white seemed to be the color. Both dead sticking and jigging...
