Lake: Navajo Reservoir

Navajo Belly Boat

Just wondering what the winds might be like on this lake. I have never fished it before and wonder if a belly boat might get me into some decent pike waters. I would fish the Colorado side primarily. Any info would be appreciated.

My experience with a 17 foot Bayliner on the lake is that mornings are usually pretty calm but around noon you're gonna want thar belly boat REAL close to where you launched it. The wind will normally blow from the New Mexico side down the canyon and more than once has had me in camp for the afternoon. If you work your way up the canyon from the Colorado side marina along the shoreline you will probably find smallmouth bass and some pike (usually the fish are pretty close to shore and love to hole up in the small protected coves) .. but be careful, that wind comes up very quick !

I would agree. I would stay close and watch the wind. but there is plenty of water to fish for both bass and pike really close to the launch ramp. Look up the area on google earth. It should show you plenty of areas and how to reach them without a ton of kicking.

Message me if you need more info.

Thanks guys. Yes I am VERY leery of wind. I usually go out only if relatively calm AND the wind is blowing me back to shore. Was out last fall on Williams fork and wind switched directions and it was a hard push against the wind back to shore. Thanks for the precautions.
