Called Boyd Lake today, wanted to know about the ice at the jet ski ramp. Got several different responses from 2 and a 1/2 to 5". The problem is they are depending on the fisherman to tell them the ice conditions and not measuring anything themselves. Would like to know what the ice thickness I is by the jet ski ramp out past the ledge about 20 yards, or about 30 yes from shore or so. Does anybody have any updates for me? Thanks
In the age of liability and lawsuits no one is going to say ďitís safe, go for itĒ because all it takes is one person falling in and a dirtbag lawyer and now someone itís screwed. We have had a roller coaster of weather, ice is variable and never should be called safe. Even if they said itís good to go, I still wouldnít walk out blindly.
Only real way you are going to know is to put on a PFD, be prepared for the worst, grab a spud bar, say a prayer and find out on your own.
There isnít a fish in that one worth a polar plunge for me... if itís worth it to you, please be careful. And as the skipper for that lake, I can tell you I wonít approve any report saying itís safe. Feel free to include ice thickness and conditions. Iíll give you all the points I can... but no one should call ice safe.
Just walked by the marina. 3 or 4 folks out past the boat ramp, and several others fishing about 50 feet out from the jet ski ramp. Um, I just kept walking, and telling myself Boyd opens for boating March 1.
