Took my buddy out to some FOCO area lakes to ice fish on Sat 1/12. We started the morning at Smith eyeing the open water and deciding rather or not to walk out.
We started drilling holes along the Northern shoreline fishing over 3-10 FOW across many spots near weeds, points, open gravel, etc.
Tried all sorts of lures, jigs, swim baits, trout magnets, worms, meal worms, etc and only seemed to get light hits on small lures with small bits of meal worm.
I marked a few fish checking out spoons and gulp minnows but no takes.
Managed one stocker trout after 4 hours, 50 holes and 50 lures.
We couldn't help but notice a guy setting up a float tube at the boat ramp... We laughed till he started landing fish with a fly rod.
Weird day to be ice fishing.
