Ice Brookies

So I'm interested in targeting some brook trout through the ice. Not looking for any specific location on the lake, but if there is anyone out there who has any suggestions on some good bodies of water with some quality Brooks and hard water I'd be very grateful for the info. If you dont want to post publicly you can email me at Thank you in advance!

Head up to Brainard Lake in Indian Peaks Area. Is a couple mile hike in through drifts on an road that isn't maintained. I believe the lake sits at 10,300 feet so the ice should be safe.

You should check with the Boulder Ranger district office, but I think they maintain the road to the parking area. It's a shorter hike to Brainard but much better brookie fishing in Lefthand Res. I'd hit the deeper channels back towards the inlet or just out from the dam.

If your ok with smaller brookies officers gulch is a good place to get into numbers of them and its right off the highway. Likely get a couple tigers too. I'd imagine its busy busy during the weekend though.

I have ice fished both Left Hand and Brainard. Done well at both, however make sure to check the Wind forecast before you go. It gets gnarly up there.

It is nearly always windy up there this time of year. Only question is it hurricane force or merely a normal 10 to 20mph.

I have read that meadow creek reservoir outside of Tabernash has an over abundance of Brookies and that you are encouraged to catch and keep your limit. That might not bode well for fish of any size. I have never iced it and canít speak to access this time of year but it might be a fun adventure. Good luck out there.
Edit: after looking at the lake info page it may only be accessible by snowmobile.
