Normally the game at Crawford is run n gun to stay on suspended crappie at 35 FOW. Not today. With lake only a puddle, the deepest water I could find was 22’ and biggest school of crappie was 3, with itchy fins that wouldn’t react to the normal stuff very well. Fished from 6 till noon this morning, ended up catching 23 perch, mostly small with six 8 to 10” better perch and six crappie from 7” to 9”. Perch were hugging the bottom, the crappie are suspended about half way down. Half a mealworm was OK, wished I had ordered some waxies, probably would have made a difference. Still, there was enough for two fish taco suppers for the two of us, can’t beat that! BTW, the surprise of the day was a nice 16” lmb that went right back after a crazy good fight. Ice was 5 to 6” at the dam.
Thanks for the report - I will likely be back there on Tuesday am. I was able to find water 25ft deep in mid channel about 200 yards SE of the dam when I was there the other day, but did not find any crappie.
I would LUV to bequest that belt to you, Fred! We are meeting at Elk Creek ramp at 7 if you wanna play. Lynn can show us how to pull the lakers through, I got bait! Let me know if you guys want a ride.
