Good morning community!
My father is gonna be here the first part of next month, and I was planning on taking him to one of our rivers for some winter spinner fishing. I'm torn between taking him to the dream stream or the Arkansas below the Pueblo reservoir. I live in Colorado Springs, so I'm looking for somewhere within an hour or 2.... any other suggestions? Or between those 2, would anyone have any deciding factors at play? I know I saw that Anglerwannabe had said last month the Arkansas was pretty low, but then I was reading here that the flow gets bumped up from the dam in mid November. Wasn't sure if that was accurate or not. Thanks!

I was down there last weekend and the river below the dam was still very low then.
Have you considered 11 Mile canyon? There is usually some decent fishing there this time of year.. in line spinners and very small jerk baits seem to be pretty effective. I'm sure the fly guys would have some good recommendations.

I actually was down at 11 mile canyon on Black Friday. Didnít seem like there were a ton of deeper pools but I couldíve just not seen them or didnít have enough time to explore. Iím open to that if thatís the place to go. I just kind of assumed the dream stream would be better considering how much more sunshine it gets compared to the canyon....

The Arkansas below Pueblo and above it (for that matter) fish well all year reardless of flows. It just gets pressured so the fish become more wary. You need to be more stealthy in your approach to the water and while entering the water.
Work deeper pools and slack water slooooooowly. Trout colored baits always produce this time of the year. The larger fish have seen everything you can imagine throughout the year. But, with some patience and inovative thinking you can fool them.

I have fished it through canyon city towards Pueblo. Lots of that area is private so be careful not to get yourself in trouble. There is still a fair amount of good water to work right in Canyon. Below Pueblo there is a good 3-4 miles of fishing. Lots right in the urban part of Pueblo.
I've never had problems fishing those areas. But, have heard from time to time people have..... Just be careful. Keep to yourself and I think you will be fine.
There are other bonus fish in the river so don't be shocked at what you might catch....
