Browns On Fire!

Post By: bharper      Posted: 10/1/2018 9:10:52 PM     Points: 164
Browns were on fire in the rain on the river producing a Rainbow in the end! I landed 46 Browns and 1 Bow at the end! I caught a beautiful 20” 3 lb Brown and a 18” Brown both on the Dynamic J-Spec Fire Craw. I also caught a 18” Brown and 18” Bow both on a #7 Rapala Countdown in the Hot Mustard Muddler Pattern! Awesome Day!

Nice looking trout! The Black Canyon has to be one of the most scenic places in CO.

Pathway- Lol! Last year I got the itch but staved it off by immediately and periodically applying hand sanitizer,!
Kev-O - Definitely get out,I’ve done fairly well from the first of Oct- Mid Nov on the Browns!

Bron- Each of the three main sections has its own visual uniqueness to not only the eye but the Fishing experience!

We did the Morrow Point boat tour 3 years ago and it was awesome.

Very nice, as usual looks like a bunch of fun.

bron-My favorite spot visually and hoping to get a big river Laker!

SGM- One of those days that are fun but go by too fast! Would’ve been great if You,Jerry, and Brad were there! The Prime Times for Fishing that In-Fisherman had on their Solunar Calendar for the day were almost dead on,especially for the bigger fish!

I got back out on the same stretch of River yesterday with my friend Chet. Monday was overcast and rainy while yesterday was mostly sunny. I fished exclusively with a Jerkbait and Chet was using a little Crappie Jig! I only ended up catching 26 yesterday compared to 47 on Monday and Chet did really well on the Jig! We caught mostly Browns but both of us caught our biggest fish which turned out to be our only Bows of the day! This was my Bow that was caught on a Dynamic J-Spec in the Fire Craw Pattern right before it got dark!

I walked up the Canyon to where you get walled out and fished my way back! The day started off mostly cloudy but the sun peeked out in the afternoon! I had my best day ever here landing 60 Browns ,50 of them on a Dynamic J-Spec in the Fire Craw pattern and the rest on #7 Rapala Countdowns! One 18” and three 17” were the best fish of the day!

Wow, not sure there is a fish in the river that has not felt a hook. Sounds like another great day.

Those are some aggressive fish now, lots of medium sized skinny fish though. Not as healthy fat as just a few years ago. I hate to keep spawning fish but they really need thinned out now. I keep 4 browns in the spring each time, Doug Homan always told us to to keep em to lessen the pressure on the baby Hofer rainbows. One reason I use jigs instead of jerks is they are much easier on their mouths n gills. Hell, if you are Russ you just lasso em by the fin without sticking a hook in em anywhere! True story, watched it happen!

SGM- I know,I even had a couple of 6” fish hitting my 3” Dynamic! Other than that it was action packed! 👍.

Diggins- Definitely too many fish in the 13-15” range, they should change the regulations to four keeper Browns 13-16”! My friend has taken a couple of Browns from the Portal but not here.In the back where you get walled out on the east side I caught quite a few 15-16” healthy Browns like you mentioned but a lot of the fish back down towards the fork were a little on the skinny side! I remember getting a lot more heathy 16” Browns like 3-4 years ago! I had a really beautiful decent Bow nipping at my lure but wouldn’t commit in the back section! I also had few really nice bigger Browns throw the hooks on the jump as you mentioned in your post! I’ve seen someone on tv but not in person land fish without hooking them! I bet you just shook your head at Russ! Lol! 👍🎣🍻

I just look at it as more of a challenge. Anyone can look one but the lasso technique is a real art form! It’s all in the wrist, lol.

Absolutely slayed them two days before the full moon!!! My best day ever,I landed 71 Browns, lost around 20! The two best fish pictured were 18 1/2" and 18. Biggest fish was caught on a Dynamic J-Spec in Fire Craw Pattern but the majority were landed on a #7 Rapala Countdown in the Perch Pattern!

Man, you gotta go on tour! I've been amazed at the fish you've caught over this year.

Tylerj & Mojo- This is my friend Chet he’s the one who helped me with changing my line set-up which helped me start landing way more fish! I used monofilament and would catch fish on the Jerkbait but not as many as he would! So I took his advice and switched to 8-10 lb Braid with a swivel connecting to a 2’ leader of 8-10 fluorocarbon which gives the Jerkbait way more action! It took me a month or so to really get the rhythm down! He still usually catches more but it’s a lot closer now! One day when we first fished together before I switched he landed like 30 Trout and I got two! He’s caught bigger bass(4-5 lbers) on the Jerkbait but I only have this photo to share as well as a big Native Cutthroat and a sweet Brown!
