My two oldest grandkids finally got a Saturday on the same day so we could get the next step in their fishing development, river fishing the Gunnison. After getting their biscuits n juice at Mikky Dees, we made it to a safe, deep run just below the Confluence at 8. We all set up with hair jigs and spent 3 hours catching some decent browns. None bigger than 18”, but they were happy. For river fishing, they used 9’ ML spinning steelhead rods. That helps them clear the brush behind them on their casts and makes it easier to hook the fish on the downstream swing. They caught 12 in the 3 hours with a few breaks in between. Started getting hot by noon so we headed out. They had a ball and want to hike up the Canyon next month when the bite gets better and where the fish are bigger! Verizon sucks right now so will post the pics when I get to town maybe tomorrow.
