Gills hot, walleye not

Me and a buddy fished Pueblo from 0600 until 1600 yesterday. Morning bite at middle island was slow but managed a couple of eyes and wipers all in the 16 to 17 inch range. Marked lots of fish but the shad balls where amazing at times looking like a solid black bar on the graph. To say the least the bigger game fish are well fed right now so we turned over to look for crappies and gill. Did not take long to find lots of gills in 15 to 20 FOW back in the Turkey Creek area. Had a blast with a bunch of 7 to 9 inch gills. Also a few crappie, spotted bass, largemouths and small mouths. We went back out looking for eyes again about 3 but only managed one more so we called it a day. Jig tipped with a half crawler or jigging spoon did the job.

I am glad that your detective work has not kept you from getting in to some fish. 👍

Still worth the trip! Gills are fun and fight harder than their size says they should. And several more species thrown in to round out another good day!

For sure worth the trip. Those gills are a blast on light tackle. The mixed bag is always fun too as you never know what is on the other end.
