Chasing the shad boils

IMO this is the second most fun way to fish... top water is still number one. Last weekend chasing the shad on my toon was stupid fun. In this video you'll see exactly what I'm using and doing. Hope you enjoy

Have to agree, getting in the boil is really fun. I got into the shad and white bass 2 days last week, was a lot of fun.

That's what I call a fishing Bonanza - fish on every cast.... Couldn't tell but it looked like small lipless cranks.

Nice to see you are still doing your thing...

Nice job! Super fun to be in the middle of boils. They will hit anything that resembles what they are feeding on. Plastics, cranks, top-water.... Doesn't seem to matter. In that lake they are super abundant. We've had quite a few 100+ fish days. The key there to find the big ones is move, move, move and move some more. Tons of small 10"-12"'s. The big ones are like ghosts. There for a brief few minutes and gone the next. We've gotten quite a few 5-8 lbers early morning and late evening. But, have yet to top the 10lb mark.

Hopefully, people remember to practice selective harvest or the big fish won't be there for very long just like all of the other lakes.... I've seen plenty of full stringers from that place. Just hope people realize that a lot of those fish they are taking are wipers that are not going to reproduce. Super hard to tell apart when they are small.... Unless you check tongue patches which to me requires some good eyes and more time out of the water than necessary.

Gotta love chasing boils. Looks like you should have had some sore shoulders after that.

thanks guys, it was so much fun. I switched from the lipless crank to the jig. It was taking too long to get the trebles unhooked and the jig was faster to unbutton. BTW fishingjunkie the lipless is a lucky craft ghost shad

Chris, you know I release pretty much everything..but did call the game wardens earlier this year because of people keeping too many. The inflatable toon with the trolling motor was perfect for going boil to boil. Saw a couple boats try and troll through the middle of the boils but I didn't see them catch anything. Largest fish I've gotten so far was about 3 lbs. Sooner or later I'll get bigger ones.

Ray - don't know about sore shoulders but certainly was a little tired.

catfishking - my experience with boils has been they can last from a couple seconds to a couple minutes. And they can pop up anywhere. The other things I notice is you can get multiple boils at the same time. Good luck and hope you have fun

Tip - using a barbless jighead will allow you to get the fish unbuttoned and get you back in the water faster

Yes. That's no secret. That is John Martin.

Did you ice up like a baseball pitcher after the trip? That is an outrageous catch rate, good for you Jim!
