Fish: Cutthroat Trout

Yellowstone fatties-fun-fishing with Nick...

Post By: TeamGR3      Posted: 7/25/2018 8:39:22 AM     Points: 1534
Well, I headed up for a week to Montana, to fish with my son Nick. He had a week to spare, before fighting fires again, so he guided me through big sky country. We fished the Yellowstone river, Gallatin, Missouri river, Ennis lake, Harrison, and Hebgen...
We caught about 30+ of the fish in the pics, spoiled to catch and release these thickens, but fun.
We caught plenty of walleye, all cookie cutters, and the fishing was so good and fast, I am just posting some pretty pics...enjoy!

nice fish and looks like a fun trip..I have never fished montana but hope to sometime soon

if you were releasing those fish (I think what you wrote means you were?) you should not be sticking your thumb through their gills. It causes quite a few to die (I know as ive done the same and watched a fish "swim off strong" only to belly up a few minutes later. Here is a write up on it (I agree with it all minus barbless [log in for link]

Were you able to eat any walleye?

We kept all fish in pics for smoking, but we released 95% of all other fish in my rubber net, so none of the fish in the net were released were handled bad-fish swam off vibrant and healthy...

Good reply, GR3. Great looking fish and sounds like a great time. I've missed your posts on Wolford this summer

Well done as usual Team GR3
Wife and I just got back from Glacier NP. Didn't fish, just photos ( my other, somewhat neglected hobby ) . Had a mayfly land on the car that was 2 + in long end to end. That might help explain the size of the trout out there !

Lots of big rivers and few people fishing them results in great fishing. I've had the pleasure of fishing Montana a couple of times and it's definitely a worthwhile trip.
