Tis the time we get up out of the heat to Grand Mesa and take the 4 wheeler to some back country lakes for a few cuties. With the drought these lakes will go down fast since the water in most of them irrigate orchards around Cedaredge. We found some in all age classes in one lake after trying several. Jigging spoons and throwing damsel nymphs produced the best. Most lakes had stocker rainbows but this one held some decent ones. We just kept these four, releasing all others. Location? Somewhere on Grand Mesa. Get the “Grand Mesa Fishing Guide” at the Visitors Center and start exploring! Bring skeeter juice!

Nice job Jerry! I used to catch some nice ones similar to yours on a lake in the back! Our ditch here in Cedaredge has been really low or shut off for much of the season! They did just increase the flows on Surface Creek.I know in the 2012 drought a lot of the lakes were really low by the end of summer!
Thanks, Bron, Brad and Brian. And to RPG for the flip. Tyler, the skeeters were bad in the trees but not bad at all in the open in the sun. We are going back the 14th Brad, so if you have a wheeler you should follow us in!
