Lake: Sterne Pond (Kids only)

Sterne Pond

Post By: Abel1      Posted: 5/21/2018 4:47:22 PM     Points: 206
I used to fish this pond as a kid. Huge goldfish. When I read the other post about Sterne Lake I thought about this one and checked it out. IT NEEDS A SKIPPER! What a cool opportunity for a kid. With summer upcoming it might be a neat experience for some kids if you happen to have some and live nearby. They could make it fun. Submit their own pics etc. Just a thought.

I have fished it a few times. Small bluegill and set up for kids. I agree that they should put some more effort in for the kids. You would have to battle littlefun to get any where. Much better places around the area for non stop action for the kids. Good luck.

Abel, Iím not sure how this works but I would be down to be a skipper. For the kids. The lake needs some serious work to make it fun for kids. As I have seen in the area, we are all good with the green sunfish. Not sure why it has not been introduced. I am willing to harass the local counsel on this and a couple other lakes. Hit me up if you would like to combine forces. This is something I feel passionate about and would be willing to go out on a limb on....

Nmnm. I think that's very admirable of you. I was thinking that maybe someone's child could be the skipper. Kind of like a feature reporter for the pond. Give some updates etc. But it would be cool to have an adult presence to assist. I haven't been over there in years so I have no idea what it looks like now. I'm going to try to get over there this week to check it out so I have an idea. When I was a kid they would stock it with trout and have fishing derbies. It was a big place for a small kid. That and Ketring Park. I caught my largest perch from there. Right around 14".

I think my son, Captain Doughball, is the youngest lake skipper still at 14. I would encourage you FXR guys with kids to get them involved with the site no matter how much you have to help them. My son takes great pride in being a skipper. I wou.d like to see another youngster join him with the title. Quinn comes to mind right away Spicyhombre.

If we lived close to it I would totally volunteer my son for it. It would be a great opportunity for a kid to share what he knows and help other kids out. I often let my little league kids teach each other and it almost always has a great outcome.

Plenty of small bodies of water besides Sterne you could have your son moniter Bubba. Tom really does a good job with contacting a potential skipper and "interviewing" him for the position even if he's a youngster. My son takes a lot of pride in watching over his ponds.

if you're interested in being a skipper contact Tom and Matt at fishexplorer.com. Like Bron said, there will be a short interview
