Lake: Barr Lake

Walleye in Barr Lake? Please Tell Me More..

Post By: Phostakidd      Posted: 4/20/2018 11:16:01 PM     Points: 51
I've been to Barr Lake once.. many years ago. It had low water, smelly, mucky shoreline, littered with dead smelly carp. It was disgusting. I have a canoe rig now and can get around in the open water.

How is the Walleye fishing in Barr Lake, compared to Aurora Res, Cherry Creek Res, or Chatfield?

Instead of asking about it,go test the waters . . . .Yes . .there are eyes in Barr . . . .its not a very deep lake, you and your canoe will be fine.
BTW . . .next time,go to the "green box" under FishExplorer.com . . .the box that says "find lake/river . . .go to Barr lake and read for yourself whats in the lake . . . .everything you want to know is in thier page.

There in there. The other lakes you listed are definitely cleaner and generally produce quite a few more fish.

Barr lake can be a tough place place. I've only had luck fishing the dam for eyes. Watch out for big wind in your canoe.

Yes - I second the warning about the wind. I've had a very close call on that lake with my boat.... I nearly got swamped when trying to get off the lake in a storm that whipped up so quickly that I had to fire up my main motor in an emergency to get to safety.

I did catch some nice fish in that lake (wipers), but this was before the lake had a salvage operation. I have given up on it since then, but I'm sure others still can find fish in there.

I've seen decent sized Walleye's pulled out of there recently. I agree its a tough lake. I fish from the limited shore access and get skunked half the time, but when I do hook up fish, they are nice sized and healthy! I remember years ago taking school field trips there and it was nasty and smelly but it seems to be better managed now and I feel it's a decent place to fish now!

Yes, that lake has good size fish, but for boating sucks because you can only use one side or the ramp to go in and out of the water. it is a pain in the ass.
They need to fix that so we can use the two sides of it.

There is walk in access on the I76 side, but it's a hike from the lone parking area.

The lake is best fished on the water. I like to take my kayak out there, the carp WILL pull you around nicely. I have yet to manage anything but carp and stockers there though. It truly is a tough nut to crack.

I usually limit out on walleye more than not. bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses around the points and weed beds. throw the small ones back please.
