Lightest trolling motor?

Post By: Captain Hook      Posted: 4/16/2018 2:48:48 PM     Points: 319
I have used a Minnkota 36lb trolling motor for my kayak for many years it's still running good but I'm thinking to upgrade it to some thing better. This motor is pretty heavy carry in and out from the small boat. With the new technology I believe there are must be some lighter trolling motors out there. Can anyone recommend some?

The lightest and bestest on the market is the Torqueedo to my knowledge. While faster and lighter than the Minn-kotas, the minnkota with ipilot on a boat is a thing of beauty and makes an ok fishing platform into a serious fish slaying machine.

yea Torqueedo is probably the biggest name on the market right now, new one that came out pretty recently was the Bixby Jet, seen a couple guys on youtube using them. Similar concept, not sure on the weight of either of them though.

I looked at these and two folks I fish with at Spinney use them. I'll stick with my 2.5 hp 4 stroke Suzuki, three of them cost less than one of these and spare batteries are very expensive. Not personally familiar but from anecdotal evidence the warranty issues leave something to be desired?

Anteroman, thanks for the information!
They are expensive! But I do not need the batteries. Looks like I need do some more research on this.

Do check out Bill's suggestion email I just bought one a couple weeks back. $745.00 delivered no tax. The motor per their brochure is 29lbs. Heck my trolling motor battery is double that. Plus it's said to run all day on 12-15 oz of fuel. You want light there you go... i2
