Hey has anyone been up to harvey gap this winter? I heard from a few sources that some fish did survive. Its going to be awhile before the pike population gets back up but hopefully they survive. One of my favorite fisheries I have found in Colorado and then this. Sad thing to see but hope maybe some tigers and pike made it.
Harvey is alive and well! It's seems that very few fish died during the dam inspection process. The most damage was done by anglers selfishly keeping and killing fish just because it was "ok" to do so. The CPW should of never put the fish salvage in place. Pike fishing has been decent this winter, as well as crappie and bluegill fishing. The perch are still stunted but there might be a plan in the works that could help that. We also got a habitat improvement plan approved. This will add some much needed structure to an otherwise featureless lake. This spring as soon as ice is off we will be placing artificial fish habitats in multiple locations throughout the reservoir to promote better crappie and bluegill recruitment.
Thats great to hear. I would be more then willing to help out with this project if needed. I would need a little advance notice but would love to help.Anything to keep this a great fishery, then I am all about it. I wish we could get the same for Crawford reservoir but from what I have heard the water users wont allow any structure to be put in. And yes I think CPW made a huge mistake with the salvage but in my opinion I think if they could they would get rid of every fish species except for trout in all lakes of colorado.
