So I was planning on hitting up the upper reservoir tomorrow as I am excited for open water season to start again but I just talked to a buddy and apparently the gates are closed. He said there are signs posted that it is closed due to too many fires being started by people camping and hiking. Very unfortunate to hear as this was one of my favorite spots to catch brookies. Anyone else try going up recently?

here is the latest update I have.. and as I check the website it still says Hikers and fires banned from the trail... Maybe you could find some different info and submit an update. I'm afraid I am out of town this week and can't do much more for now.
The town of Palmer Lake has closed the trailhead that leads to the Upper Reservoir. The closure is due to wildfire concerns from "campfires left by hikers." They are working on opening the trailhead when fire restrictions are not in effect. There are also plenty of other ways around this trail, but I don't have much information on that. This is becoming quite the hot topic of debate around here, and I am posting the most recent information here. The most recent press update: [log in for link]
