River: South Platte - Dream Stream

Dam news from South Park

Post By: malty falcon      Posted: 4/14/2017 5:21:47 PM     Points: 6753
I spoke with several DAM guys at my restaurant recently. One fine fellow told me that Antero is currently at the OLD full pool level. While there was talk about filling Antero to 26FOW, there isn't enough money to replace the ramps and campground at this time.

We are all lucky that Denver Water doesn't just fill Antero to suit their needs and leave Antero closed to the general public!!!

Wild Horse Reservoir is currently looking to FILL IN FIVE! That's right, we will hopefully have another lake on the South Platte, located between Hartsel and the entrance to Spinney! The Dam Guys said that all the land had been bought from those ranchers. The next obstacle was that surveys showed some American Indian ruins or artifacts that may be worthy of preservation.

That's all the news I got, hope you're as excited as I am.

I thought this new Wild Horse reservoir was going to be for private use.

Wild Horse from what I've heard will be off CR 53 located a couple miles South on RTE 9 out of Hartsel. They purchased some of the land in our development Hartsel Springs Ranch. I understand the reservoir could be built within 7 years.
Antero is almost 16' currently and it is expected to be raised to 18' with Spring runoff.
Spinney has been a harsh mistress this year, reports from fellow fishermen are very sparse in the catch category.

From the looks of the map it appears that the dam is not on the SP River, correct?

From the plans they have released it appears all of the water will come from the Homestake pipeline. There is no other water supply in the proposed area that I am aware of. I do know the small Badger Basin stream is on CR 53 but that's about 24 miles in on 53 going toward Salida.

Yes, the Dam Guys did mention Homestake as a water source.

One of the BEST Burgers, and lots of other great stuff in Salida go to 50 Burger!!! If you have room after the great burger and fries, the strawberry thick shake is to die for. In a way, it's good I live 60 miles from here, or I would weigh 50 # more!!!!
