Went fishing at Island Lake this morning. Got on the ice about 7:30 am and fished for a little less than 3 hours. Ice was 6-12 inches thick with soft layers and some slush on top. Fishing was fast for the first hour, so much so that I did not have time to rig a second rod until I had already caught 7-8 fish. Caught mostly rainbows, 2 splake and 3 small brookies. Kept a couple of the larger ones (14 inches) for dinner. Rainbows were mostly around 10-12 deep and splake were on the bottom in 35 fow. Color and jig size did not matter as long as they were tipped with meal worm and seems that shrimp scent helped get them excited when things started to slow down. There was no one else on the Lake and it appears that only a few people have iced it so far.
